The knife Blade

Blade shape
·         Here is a Custom Damascus Folding knives with handmade Damascus blade and a leather case. (Click for more information and price).
·         A good thickness of the knife to aim is 3 mm (0.12 ") .If you do not intend to use the blade to carve, it can be a little thicker.
·         When it comes to width, narrower is better for carving, while a wider blade is better for cutting wood and other heavy work. The width also extends the life of the blade as it has more material to polish. Between 1.8 cm and 3 cm (0.7 "and 1.2") is a good guide. Any broader than that and you are only paying for the extension of peen.
·         I mentioned the previous length, and it is of essential importance to the way you use the knife. A length of 9-12 cm (3.5 "- 4.7") is a good guide. A shorter blade fits better in your pocket, gives you more control when carving and is lighter. A longer one is better for cutting wood and other heavy work.
·         The shape of the flanged side usually goes directly from the handle, then the last 5 cm (2 ") before the point moves slowly upward and meets the spine at 45 degrees or more. Last millimeter of the edge If the edge and spine meet less than 45 degrees, it is likely to be too thin and narrow and break up rather quickly.
·         This Morakniv may not seem extraordinary in any way. However, it is one of the most versatile knives on the market. A general rule with knives is: 'The simpler it is, the better it is'. This knife has a large carbon steel blade. (Click for more information and price).
·         Serrated edges, for example, used in bread knives also appear on some survival knives. I have no idea what the thought is here, because it definitely does not improve the knife in any way. Except maybe if you need to cut a bread. Stay away from this type of knives.
·         The spine can be straight or with a drop tip. If it falls, it makes it easier to use it with steel for fire. The spine must also have sharp square edges for use with steel on fire. If you do not have that, you can grind or sharpen the spine to make it squarer.
·         The bevel should have an angle between 25 and 30 degrees. The higher angle makes it more durable, while a lower angle improves your carving skills. The bevel must be straight or concave. A convex bevel makes it act strange and almost impossible to carve. Not to mention sharpening. A beveled micro helps the knife stay sharp longer, you will find it in almost any kitchen knife. But it is not recommended on a survival knife, it makes carving much more difficult because you get a very narrow bevel. For more information about the bezel, read on in the chapter on Sharpening below.

Blade material

·         Grand Way 2287 LP with a stainless steel blade and a stacked leather handle that makes it warm and soft to the touch with a good grip. (Click for more information and price).
·         Steels come in different qualities, each with different properties, these properties are:
·         Hardness, which is measured on the Rockwell C scale. This is how resistant the steel is to deform.
·         Resistance, is the flexibility of steel. It opposes hardness in such a way that the harder the steel, the less difficult it is. Imagine a dry spaghetti versus a cooked spaghetti. Cooked is tough, can bend and even stretch a little. The dry is hard. It is rigid and will break with too much force.
·         The wear resistance is the abrasive wear resistance. That's what happens when you use a sandpaper. The roughest surface wears out in the smoothest. Harder steel generally has a higher wear resistance. Imagine sanding the spaghetti.
·         The resistance to corrosion is the resistance to rust. Stainless steel is an example of material highly resistant to corrosion. However, if you choose a corrosion resistant material, you should forgo the finer sharpness on the edge. They are simply not possible to make as clear as other materials.
·         The retention of the edge is the time that the sheet will retain its sharpness. It is the sum of the above.
·         As you probably already thought, it is not possible to make a definitive knife. You will have to think about what properties you want in your knife.
